For Leaders

How much is membership?

The fee for leaders is $50, which includes a background check valid for three years, so you won’t need to pay again until it expires. Each child registration is also $50. If you require financial assistance, we do offer aid upon request—please email finance@salamscouts.org for more information.

How are meetings structured?

Salam Scouts meetings are designed to be fun, engaging, and educational! Leaders have the flexibility to plan meetings based on their troop’s interests while focusing on Islamic values, community service, and skill-building.

To make things easier, we will provide a meeting template that you can use to structure your sessions. This template will help ensure your meetings are organized, enjoyable, and meaningful for all scouts.

Can I have a multi-level troop?

Yes, you can have a multi-level troop for the first three levels: ExplorersAdventurers, and Pathfinders. However, Trailblazers must be separated by gender.

What are the uniforms?

Troop members can wear a vest featuring the Salam Scouts logo, along with level badges. The uniform is a great way to showcase the troop’s earned badges and skills. Patches for additional skills can be placed on the back of the vest. This design helps build a sense of identity and pride among our scouts. You’ll find a detailed description of the vest uniforms on our website soon!

How many badges are available right now?

We currently have one badge to get you started! This badge can take about three meetings to complete, or just one, depending on your troop’s flexibility. Our team is working very hard to provide leaders with more badges, and we hope to roll out one to two badges for each level each month.

In the meantime, troop leaders can create and earn patches for various skills such as horseback riding, hiking, baking, and more! We truly appreciate your patience and pray that Allah (SBW) puts barakah in our time as we work to build this program.

What are the differences between badges and patches?

Badges are specific to the Salam Scouts program and represent the completion of a set of structured activities designed for each scout level. They are placed on the front of the vest to showcase the scout’s accomplishments.

Patches, on the other hand, are for recognizing skills or activities that might not be part of a formal badge program, like horseback riding, hiking, or baking. Patches are placed on the back of the vest and add a fun, personalized touch to the scout’s uniform.

What if I want to start a Salam Scouts troop in my state, but it’s not currently listed on your website?

We would love to have you start a troop in your community! To form a troop, we require at least two troop leaders to get started. Please email us at info@salamscouts.org, and a team member will contact you soon with more information.

I have never been a leader for a scout group before. Will there be someone to help me?

Absolutely! Once you become a leader, we will provide you with all the support you need. You’ll receive a handbook, a New Troop Leader Guide, a meeting template, and meeting plans for the available badges.

Additionally, we will schedule a leader orientation that goes through the program in detail and answers any other questions you may have. We are here to help you every step of the way!

First you want to register an account with Salam Scouts, you can do that by going here.

Once your account is verified, you will be able to access our online portal where you can complete your child’s registration.

What is the structure of Salam Scouts’ programs?

Each level has its own set of activities, badges, and goals tailored to the scouts’ age and development. Our programs are designed around four levels based on age:

  • Explorers (grades KG-1st): Focus on curiosity, creativity, and foundational skills.
  • Adventurers (grades 2nd-3rd): Emphasize outdoor survival skills, leadership roles, and sustainable living.
  • Pathfinders (grades 4th – 5th): Introduce more adventurous activities, fostering responsibility and teamwork.
  • Trailblazers (grades 6th  – 8th): Encourage independent thinking, mentoring, and community service projects.
How often do troops meet?

The frequency of troop meetings is determined by the troop leader. They also decide on the activities and skills that will be covered during each meeting. For more information on your troop’s schedule and planned activities, please contact your local troop leader.

What kind of activities do scouts participate in?

Scouts engage in a variety of activities, including outdoor adventures, community service, arts and crafts, Islamic character building, leadership training, and skill development in areas like STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics). Activities are designed to be fun, educational, and aligned with Islamic values.

What is your policy on safety?

The safety of our scouts is our top priority. All troop leaders and volunteers undergo thorough background checks through a credible and receive training in child safety and welfare. We also expect our leaders to follow strict safety guidelines during activities to ensure a safe environment for all participants.

Are parents allowed to participate in troop activities?

Absolutely! Parent involvement is encouraged, and we welcome volunteers to assist with troop activities, events, and meetings. All volunteers who work directly with kids must undergo a background check to ensure a safe environment for our scouts. If you’re not interested in being a full-time leader, you can still play a supportive role by encouraging the scouts, helping them develop new skills, and serving as a mentor. If you’re interested in volunteering, please contact your troop leader for more information on how you can get involved.
